چکیده

A 5‐year‐old boy presented to our clinic for a routine check‐up. Best corrected visual acuity was 20/20 and 20/60 in the right and left eyes, respectively. Cycloplegic refraction revealed +0.50 −0.50 × 179° in the right eye and −6.50 −0.75 × 171° in the left eye. The left eye had an exotropia of 14 prism diopters. Anterior segment examination was normal in both eyes. On dilated funduscopy, the right eye was normal [Figure 1a]; while in the left eye, there was an extensive myelination of the retinal nerve fibers [Figure 1b]. Full correction of the refractive error in the left eye was prescribed and patching of the right eye for 2 hours daily was recommended. The usage of contact lens was suggested for maximal results and in order to reduce the aniseikonia. One year later, visual acuity of the left eye improved to 20/40.

Unilateral Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fibers

87 Dear Editor, I read the photo essay titled “Unilateral Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fibers” with interest.[1] The authors reported a case of unilateral extensive myelination with amblyopia, with partial improvement after occlusion therapy. However, there was no comment about the status of the optic nerve head. Several reports have suggested that myelinated nerve fibers are associated with optic ...

Myelinated nerve fibers and severe myopia.

Two 4-year-old boys, one white and one black, had unilateral extensive myelinization of retinal nerve fibers associated with severe myopia, esotropia, and amblyopia. The finding of unilateral extensive myelinization of the nerve head and retinal fibers in a child may indicate a potentially remediable anisometropic amblyopia.

Optical coherence tomography and multifocal electro retinogram analysis of unilateral myelinated retinal nerve fibers associated with ipsilateral myopia and amblyopia

This report describes a case of unilateral myelinated retinal nerve fibers associated with ipsilateral myopia and amblyopia. A 9-year-old girl presented with the complaint of diminished vision in her left eye for several years. Her bestcorrected visual acuity was 1.2 in the right eye and 0.06 in the left eye. The refractive error was -0.25D and -4.00D in the right and left eyes, respectively. F...

Unilateral myelinated retinal nerve fibers associated with ipsilateral myopia and amblyopia

The objective is to evaluate the clinical features of unilateral myelinated retinal nerve fibers (MRNF) associated with ipsilateral myopia and amblyopia. We retrospectively analyzed three patients with unilateral MRNF associated with ipsilateral myopia and amblyopia. The ages at presentation range from 4 to 10 years. Refractive error in affected eye ranged from S-6.25DC-2.00D toS-9.75DC-1.25D40...

Unilateral Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Associated with Axial Myopia,Amblyopia and Strabismus

A 4-year-old girl with normal development presented with progressive ocular deviation of 3 years’ duration; past medical and ocular history was unremarkable. Upon presentation, cycloplegic refraction revealed refractive error of +1.00 -0.50×180 and -14.00 in the right and left eyes. Visual acuity was 20/20 and 20/400 in the right and left eyes with optical correction of plano and -14.00, respec...

A Variety of Anatomical and Clinical Manifestations of Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fibers

Introduction: Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fibers (MRNF) represent a developmental anomaly that occurs in about 1% of the population. They appear as different in size, well demarcated white striated lesions along the retinal nerve fibers mainly in contiguity with the optic nerve head. The MRNF may be an isolated asymptomatic finding or associated with other ocular or systemic abnormalities, causing...
